The negotiating teams for the Boston School Committee and Teachers Union met for six full days in late August with the objective of finalizing contract negotiations that had been underway for several months. Boston’s voters will decide on November 8th whether to adopt the Community Preservation Act (CPA) which would result in a 1% surcharge on real property tax bills less exemptions. Boston ended FY16 with a $1.9M surplus, smaller than the $7.4M surplus in FY15. The surplus is due to actual receipts exceeding budgeted revenues by $25.9M, which was greater than the $24.0M that actual spending exceeded final appropriations. (read more>)
