Mayor’s Housing Plan

Mayor Walsh released a comprehensive housing plan for Boston that projects changing needs by housing sector and recommends policy action through 2030. The plan outlines objectives to produce 53,000 new units of housing, a 20% increase. To meet the housing goals, an annual housing budget of $51 million is recommended, which would require an additional $20 million in new housing funds each year. Half that goal is estimated to come from the Community Preservation Act, but Boston voters would have to approve a 1% property tax surcharge. Read more>

Research Bureau Opposes Ordinance Amending Salary of City Councilors

The Research Bureau opposes the proposal to increase the salary of only the members of the Boston City Council and not address this matter as part of a comprehensive approach to all senior positions whose salary or salary ranges are set by ordinance.

Remembering Mayor Thomas M. Menino

The Research Bureau is saddened by the passing of Mayor Tom Menino today. We worked with him closely for 30 years as a partner on major issues that will have a long-term impact on Boston. He was a strong fiscal steward of the City and his leadership established the foundation for Boston’s continued success. The video above provides a moving tribute to Tom Menino as Mayor.
